
Jeremy Sony began writing stories at the age of eighthis earliest projects weaving Greek and Egyptian mythos into his tales of eveyday people. Two decades later, his themes gravitate to the two constants he sees in the world: death and technology—and how we stay connected and alive.
Sony's plays include THE FACE OF CONTRITION, SPIN CYCLE (2010 Heideman Award Finalist), THE DEATH OF EDWARD FOX (Caught in the Act Audience Choice), MAGNOLIA BEFORE MIDNIGHT (Semi-finalist, 2010 Heartland Ten-Minute Play Festival), FLUTTERING AGAINST THE PANE (2010 Northern Writes New Play Festival), MEETING GOD ON A TUESDAY MORNING (Curtain Players Playwrights Festival 2009), HARD STOP (2009 Northern Writes New Play Festival), DO THEY EXPEDITE THERE? (Curtain Players Playwrights Festival 2005, Ohio AACTFest 2005), PARALLAXIS, and CHARLIE DOG. TWISTED TALES—a collection of short plays including HOLIDAY IDOLS, CONFESSIONS FROM THE CRAYON BOX, and AFTER THE HAPPY—earned Sony an invite to the 18th Annual Last Frontier Theatre Conference in Valdez, Alaska. His full-length play, SEPARATION ANXIETY received a workshop performance at the 2008 Curtain Players Playwrights Festival, was named a Finalist in the Long Beach Playhouse's 18th Annual New Works Festival, and named among the top 100 Stage Play Script Winners in the 75th Annual Writer's Digest Writing Competition in 2006. A film adaptation of SEPARATION ANXIETY, penned by Sony, was produced by Glass City Films in 2010, which has screened at several film festivals and is now available on DVD.
In 2008, Sony's essay Hard Stop (later adapted into a stage play) received first place in the Writer's Digest 77th Annual Writing Competition, Memoirs/Personal Essay catagory (published in the 2008 Writing Competition Collection under the pen name Jamie Rotham).
Sony received his bachelor of arts in film, television, and theatre from the University of Notre Dame. He has been recognized by the American Association of Community Theatre (AACT), the Ohio Community Theatre Association (OCTA), and the Central Ohio Theatre Roundtable for his writing, acting, and directing.
Sony's acting credits include roles in GREETINGS; INVENTING VAN GOGH (Curtain Players, Excellence in Acting, AACT); WHITE RUSSIAN, A FEW GOOD MEN, TAKE TWO, THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO, CASH ON DELIVERY, and Theatre Daedalus' CAUGHT IN THE ACT. He has directed THE GUYS (Excellence in Directing, AACT), the central Ohio premiere of RABBIT HOLE, DARK SIDE (Central Ohio Theatre Roundtable Award for Directing, Excellence in Directing from OCTA), DO THEY EXPEDITE THERE, THE COPPER ANNIVERSARY, ALL IN THE TIMING, OH NANCY!, and INVENTING VAN GOGH.
Sony is Co-Founder of Theatre Daedalus and currently serves as Artistic Director. He is webmaster for TheatreDaedalus.com and his own site jeremysony.com, and has freelanced as a graphic designer, website developer, and copywriter. Currently, he is in his second year of the MFA Professional Playwriting Program at Ohio University studying under the direction of Charles Smith and Erik Ramsey. Sony is an Associate Member of the Dramatists Guild and splits his time between Columbus and Athens, Ohio.
