Playwrights

Jeremy SonyJeremy Sony began writing stories at the age of eight—his earliest projects weaving Greek and Egyptian mythos into his tales of eveyday people. Two decades later, his themes gravitate towards mortality, the choices we make, and the path of consequence we travel as a result.

Some of Sony's short plays include The Death of Edward Fox (Caught in the Act Audience Choice), Do They Expedite There?, Spin Cycle, Against the Pane, Parallaxis, and Charlie Dog. His full-length play, Seperation Anxiety received a workshop performance at the 2008 Curtain Players Playwrights Festival, was named a Finalist in the Long Beach Playhouse's 18th Annual New Works Festival, and named among the top 100 Stage Play Script Winners in the 75th Annual Writer's Digest Writing Competition in 2006. A film adaptation of Separation Anxiety, penned by Sony, will be released by Ohio-based Glass City Films in 2010.

In 2008, Sony's essay Hard Stop received first place in the Writer's Digest 77th Annual Writing Competition, Memoirs/Personal Essay catagory (published in the 2008 Writing Competition Collection under the pen name Jamie Rotham). In 2009, the stage version of Hard Stop was selected for the Northern Writes New Play Festival in Bangor, Maine.

Sony received his bachelor of arts in film, television, and theatre from the University of Notre Dame. He has been recognized by the American Association of Community Theatre (AACT), the Ohio Community Theatre Association (OCTA), and the Central Ohio Theatre Roundtable for his writing, acting, and directing.

Sony's acting credits include roles in Greetings!; Inventing Van Gogh (Excellence in Acting, AACT); White Russian, A Few Good Men, Take Two, The Last Night of Ballyhoo, Cash on Delivery, and Theatre Daedalus' Caught in the Act. He has directed The Guys (Excellence in Directing, AACT), the central Ohio premiere of Rabbit Hole, and Dark Side (Central Ohio Theatre Roundtable Award for Directing, Excellence in Directing from OCTA). He most recently directed a staged reading of Copper Anniversary by Peter J. Roth, and will direct All in the Timing for Theatre Daedalus in August 2010. After being workshopped at the 2005 Curtain Players Playwrights Festival, his one-act Do They Expedite There? represented Curtain Players at the state of Ohio AACTFest in February of the same year.

Aside from Separation Anxiety, Sony has written a number of film and television scripts. His script The Fountain Project was a semi-finalist in the Chesterfield Writer's Film Project and Daybringer, co-written by Michael Parsons, placed in the top 25 percent in the 2006 Expo Screenplay Competition and was a Quarterfinalist in the 2007 AAA Screenplay Contest / Teleplay Division.

Sony is Co-Founder of Theatre Daedalus and currently serves as Managing Director. He is also webmaster for Theatre Daedalus and several nonprofit organizations, and freelances as a graphic designer, website developer, and copywriter. Sony is an Associate Member of the Dramatists Guild and resides in Columbus, Ohio.
